How to Compress a PDF on Android for Free (No Signup, No App)

A PDF on your Android phone is too big to attach or upload. Installing an app just for this is a hassle, and many online tools ask you to sign up first.

Quick answer

Open Compress PDF in Chrome, choose the PDF from the file picker, pick a mode, and download the smaller version.

Step by step

  1. Open Chrome and go to Compress PDF.
  2. Choose "Structure Only" for text PDFs or "Rasterize & Recompress" for scans and photos.
  3. Tap the drop area. In the file picker, look in Recent, Downloads or Google Drive to find your PDF.
  4. Compare the sizes shown, then tap the download button.
  5. Chrome shows a notification when the download finishes. Tap it to open the file, or find it later in the Downloads section of your Files app.

Tips

  • Photos of documents turned into PDF are heavy. "Rasterize & Recompress" with a lower quality setting shrinks them the most.
  • Turn your phone to landscape if you want the buttons and the preview to be larger.
  • Keep the original file until you have checked the compressed copy.

Good to know

Your PDF stays on your phone. The page works in Chrome without installing anything and without an account.
