What is editpdf.tools?
editpdf.tools is a set of free, browser-based tools for working with PDF, image and video files. It includes tools to merge, split, compress, sign, watermark, number and fill PDFs, plus image and video utilities and a Pro Edit PDF tool.
Are my files uploaded to your servers?
All tools except Edit PDF run entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device. Edit PDF (Pro) uploads your file for processing; it is scanned for malware, processed in an isolated memory environment, and not stored. It is removed as soon as you refresh or close the page.
Is editpdf.tools really free?
Yes. Every tool except Edit PDF is free to use, with no account needed to start. The free plan is supported by ads.
What do the paid plans include?
Paid plans (Pro and Business) remove ads and unlock Edit PDF. Pro starts at $10 per month, and yearly billing is available with a 10% discount. You can also try Pro for a one-time $2 pass that lasts 72 hours, with no automatic recurring charge.
Why does the site ask me to turn off my ad blocker?
Ads are how the free plan is funded. If an ad blocker is on, the free tools ask you to disable it for this site and refresh the page. Paid users do not see ads and are never asked.
Do I need to install anything?
No. editpdf.tools works in modern browsers on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS and Android.

How much does editpdf.tools cost?
Free costs $0 and includes every tool except Edit PDF. Pro is $10 per month. Business starts at $100 per month. Yearly billing is available on paid plans with a 10% discount.
What does the $2 trial include?
A one-time pass with 72 hours of Pro access. There is no automatic recurring charge, and after 72 hours your account goes back to the Free plan.
How many seats does Business include?
Business includes 12 seats on monthly billing and 15 seats on yearly billing.
Can Business pricing be customized?
Yes. The $100 per month price is the starting point. The final price depends on your use case and requirements, for example more seats or an API integration. Email support@editpdf.tools and we will quote based on what you need.
Do paid plans show ads?
No. Paid plans remove ads completely and unlock Edit PDF.
Is there a file size limit on Business?
No. Business has no file size limit.
Can I cancel, and what about refunds?
Paid plans can be cancelled from your account, and you keep access until the end of the current billing period. Read our Refund Policy for how failed and duplicate payments are handled.
Compress PDF
Is it really safe to process PDFs without uploading files?
Yes! Our platform uses local browser processing. This means your files are edited directly on your computer or mobile device and are never transmitted to our servers. Your data remains 100% private.
Do I need an internet connection to process the files?
You only need the internet to load the website initially. Once the page is fully loaded, all the processing happens locally on your device.
Are there any file size limits?
Because the processing happens on your device, the file size limit is primarily determined by your device's available RAM and processing power, rather than strict server restrictions.
Does compressing a PDF reduce its quality?
Structure only does not re-encode your content, so text and vector graphics stay sharp. Rasterize and recompress turns each page into an image, so text may no longer be selectable afterwards. Use it when file size matters more than that.

Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
Most of a text PDF's size is already efficient. The big savings come from images, so try Rasterize & Recompress for scans and photos.
What file size should I aim for?
Check the limit on the form or email service you are using. Many email services allow attachments of roughly 20-25 MB, while some application portals accept only a few MB.

Will merging change my original PDFs?

Does merging reduce quality?

PNG is lossless, so the quality slider helps less. Reduce the maximum width, or convert the image to WebP or JPG with Image Format Convert.

What is a flat PDF?

What is the difference between a watermark and hiding information?
A watermark labels a document. It does not hide what is underneath. If something must not be seen, remove it from the document instead of covering it.
Which opacity should I use?
Start around 30% and adjust until the page stays readable.
Can the watermark be removed later?
It is added to the page itself, so it cannot be casually deleted. Keep your original unwatermarked file for yourself.
