How to Sign a PDF Without Printing It

A contract, lease or form arrives as a PDF and needs your signature today. Printing it, signing with a pen and scanning it back takes a printer, a scanner and half an hour. You can skip all of that.

Quick answer

Draw your signature on screen, place it on the signature line, and download the signed PDF. It takes about a minute and works on a phone too.

Step by step

  1. Open the PDF Sign tool.
  2. Draw your signature in the pad with your finger, a stylus or a mouse. Pick an ink color, then click "Use this signature".
  3. Upload the PDF you need to sign.
  4. Click the page where the signature should go. Drag it onto the signature line and use the corner dots to resize it.
  5. Click "Save signed PDF" to download the result.

Tips

  • Fill in names, dates and other details first with PDF Form Fill, save the file, then sign the saved copy.
  • On a phone or tablet a finger or stylus gives a more natural signature than a mouse. Clear the pad and redraw until you like it.
  • Zoom in before placing the signature so it sits on the line and not above it.
  • Keep the unsigned original for your own records.

Good to know

This adds a drawn signature image to your PDF. It is not a certificate-based digital signature. Many everyday agreements accept a drawn signature, but requirements differ by country and document type, and some documents need a certified or witnessed signature. Check what the other party accepts before you send. Your PDF and your signature stay in your browser and are not uploaded.
