Quick answer
Set a maximum width, then lower the quality slider a step at a time while you watch the side-by-side preview.
Step by step
- Open Image Compress.
- Drop in your JPG, PNG or WebP image.
- Set a maximum pixel width if the photo is very large, and move the quality slider.
- Compare the original and compressed sizes in the preview.
- When the size looks right, download the result.
Tips
- Resize first. A 4000-pixel phone photo is far bigger than most forms and web pages need.
- Lower the quality in small steps and stop one step before you notice a difference.
- Keep your original. Compressing an already compressed JPG again lowers the quality further.
- A PNG does not shrink much with the quality slider. Reduce its width, or convert it with Image Format Convert.
Good to know
Some quality loss is unavoidable with lossy formats like JPG and WebP, but small steps keep it hard to see. Your images are compressed on your device and are not uploaded.
